
I have recently found myself reading large amounts of the popular manga series Liar Game. And surprisingly for a series that receives almost universal critical acclaim, I find it to be incredibly flawed. For one, it’s convoluted as all hell. Every aspect of the series has been made ridiculously overcomplicated, with god knows how many different methods to each game, making them all well-thought out to the point of absurdity, and firmly breaking the willing suspension of disbelief. But what breaks it more is that we have two characters able to exploit the hell out of every hack available for each of the Liar Games. Our villain is a bit more justifiable in that we still don’t know too much about him, but when our protagonist appears to have God Mode on at all times simply because he majored in psychology, that’s when it gets a bit silly.
We also have a relatively annoying sidekick to our protagonist (well, I guess she’s as much of a protagonist as him, but eh), being gullible to a fault constantly. While she improves over time, she’s still annoying. And while Read more »
