Quality Animation Chronicles: Overman King HerpDerp

It’s that time again. I’ve already talked about BONES’ latest upcoming UN-nothingGOingforit’ and besides Tiger and Bunny I haven’t really been watching many shows relating to mecha. Y’know I really would’ve liked to talk about more mecha too for this week, but I think I’ve found a compromise to this situation. Today I will be covering once again a small portion of The Quality Animation Chronicles; however, I’d like to have the spotlight on a show with heavy mecha themes. A show which bears the dark past of a sub-par dub… a show with a famous mecha figure that seems to always get in a series of videogames involving giant robots fighting one another…

Mecha Munch: Overman King Gainer

Alright, welcome to my first segment of Mecha Munch! Pretty much I’ll be ranting/raving about various mecha shows every so often as part of my contribution to le blog.

Today’s featured show on Mecha Munch is known as Overman King Gainer!

Let’s do this. :]

In the world of Japanese mecha anime shows, there are tons upon tons of notable series. Let me just say that this one is not particularly among them.
Sunrise is a popular studio, probably the most remembered for creating the animated Gundam franchise. They have also made other mecha shows such as the swimmingly unique Zegapain and the awesomely bishie-ridden medieval show The Vision of EscaFlowne. Overman King Gainer is just another of Sunrise’s works and I went in expecting a lot; not only because these were the same creators as EscaFlowne, but because the genius artist behind the character designs was Kenichi Yoshida. He has collaborated with Sunrise and Studio BONES as a character designer and an animator, and honestly his art in general is just really eye-catching and wonderfully colourful. Read more »
