So we all remember anime back in the day when it was strictly 2-D animation: when a girl met a swordsman and was transported to a whole other world in the process; when an ace gunmen held a gruesome reputation and acted like a complete goof; when a small girl wandered desolate streets protecting an egg at all times. Shows such as these are labelled ultimately as classics that can’t be beat; so then, with the success of 2-D animation, when and why did CGI in Japanese animation suddenly become so popular?
