Wow, talk about the opposite of punctual.

I’ll try and post up one article every three days until the retrospectives are done, but I may switch out to something else a couple times. I also may have to miss it a few times, but sod it, once every 6 days is still more than once every 4 weeks 2 weeks.

So, without further adue… adeiau… adew… ad… delay, I present to you a recap of the goddamn horrible season of Summer 2010. This is, of course, horrible in more ways than one… because out of its handful of noteworthy shows, three of them were horror series. Thus it was known as the summer of horror.

Mostly because it was shit, though.

I swear to god that's really the name of this series.

Legend of the Legendary Heroes

I’m really not sure what I was expecting when I went into this one. Initially, I was drawn in by the ridiculous title. I’m not sure whose idea such a title was, but I assure you they have already been seized by the Department of Redundancy Department. I thought it may have been some silly reference to Legend of the Galactic Heroes (not sure why I watched it then, since I hadn’t even seen Legend of the Galactic Heroes then (And if you haven’t, go do so, it’s the best anime ever. (this is absolute fact, not opinion. (I really need to stop putting brackets inside brackets.)))). Read more »

OK, OK, every three days starting today.

Anyway, we now go way back except not quite as far back but still way back to the season of Spring 2010. Amusingly, this was of course before I was jaded to the new output we get every season, and since a lot of stuff here looked half decent I decided to try out everything I could.

Why would I do this to myself.

Still, Spring 2010 was firmly the best anime season I’ve seen so far. Despite having a decent amount of utter crap in it. Because it wouldn’t be fun to rant about if it didn’t.

Aliens + Lightning + Children's Toy = SUPER ROBOT

Heroman

Well, I went in hoping for a lovably camp, unbashedly over-the-top and amusing super robot show, and what I got was a saturday morning cartoon without a hint of irony. This is pretty much what Megas XLR was a parody of (Chicks dig giant robots).  The only thing of worth that it produced was some sweet animation and a meme that lasted about a week revolving around Stan Lee wanting coffee.

FETID. THEY HIDE THEIR FINEST BEAN.

Garçon, Coffee!

So, I was going to look back on the recently finished Spring season of anime. But seeing as how I’ve only been watching anime on an airing basis for a year and a half at this point, I figured I’d just go back to where I started and bring you all up to speed instead. Why? ‘Cause why the fuck not?

So here, we start in the season of Winter 2010. A season which, unfortunately, saw pretty much fuck all come out.

Ookami Kakushi

Ookami Kakushi

So let’s start with what got me watching the airing season in the first place: Ookami Kakushi. I was round Plebeian’s one day, and he was starting out the new shows from the anime season. And the one he was watching at the time was a show called Ookami Kakushi. Plebeian had not, however, seen a certain show by the name of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, of which I was quite a big fan at the time. So I took the liberty to fill him in on a little detail: EVERYTHING IN THIS IS A PAINFULLY BAD REHASH OF HIGURASHI. Read more »
